In our daily life, most people have received someone else’s apology and meanwhile apologized to someone others. In which way or what kind of words you choose to apologize is often neglected by researchers. This casual select can reflect people’s mastery of apology usage.When foreign students use Chinese to apologize, which words they are tending to use largely reflect how they learnt these words and to some extent, revealing the different cultural psychology in the process of communication,In this paper, in the form of a questionnaire survey, we investigated and analyzed how do English-speaking students use the high-frequency words of apology; meanwhile, making a statistical comparison to the textbook which foreign students are using in Anhui University right now. This paper is divided into five chapters, the first chapter is the introduction, mainly expounds the significance of the topic, briefly introduces the related researches at home and abroad.In chapter two, the writer gives a corresponding explanation of the content and the way of apology. Making it clear that in this paper, we focus on the usage of the high frequency apology words which foreign students conduct, instead of the body language or the facial expression when they apologize.The third and the fourth chapters is the key part of the whole paper. In chapter three, we carry out a questionnaire survey on both Chinese students and foreign students and analyze the statistic with the software SPSS. We find that there is a significant difference between foreign students and Chinese student when they are using the high frequency apology words. In chapter four, we go through the textbook material and make a statistical analysis of the high frequency apology words arrangement, meanwhile compare to the usage of the foreign students, and finally, we get the conclusion:the sequence and the number of the high frequency apology words which appear in the textbooks do not make much difference to their use, but the number they occur under the apology context and the time when the students use these words is positively correlated.The fifth chapter is conclusion. In this part, we give a summary of the conclusions we get and put forward some suggestions to the further research.
