This report is based on the author’s practice which is the interpretation of anengineering speech made by the addressor from Jinan Xingli Water Resources Bureau. Itconsists of four chapters. The first chapter is task description. It introduces the backgroundof the conference, the entrusting party of the task,selection process of the interpreters andthe entrusting party’s requirements. The second chapter is process description. The authorintroduces preparation from the perspectives of technical terms and the professionalmaterials. The interpreting process reviews the performance of the author while finishingthe task. And the feedback from the entrusting party is also presented. The third chapter isguiding theory and case analysis. With the guidance of Gile’s theory, the author probes intothe barriers from the terms of the four efforts which are listening and analysis effort,memory effort, production effort and coordination effort., and puts forward the solutions.The interpreting strategies used in this task are also introduced through specific examples.The fourth chapter is conclusion. The author concludes the cognition about the factorsaffecting the interpreting task and points out the defects.
