Although China does not have a very long history in online publishing, which is marked by the advent of the first Chinese online magazine, the electronic version of "Chinese Scholars Abroad(CHISA)" in January1995, the rapid development and great achievements of online publishing have caused a mixed feeling of both love and hate in the whole publishing industry."Love" means online publishing has created a lot of legends, such as the annually updated list of millionaire online writers and the astonishing sales figures. On the other hand,"hate" can be attributed to the big shock which online publishing has brough on traditional publishing industry. For traditional publishing industry dominated by paper book publishing, how to deal with the promising development of online publishing has caused much concern in both academia and the whole industry. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that online publishing has also broadened the traditional publishing industry. This thesis combines a large number of cases and the current status of online publishing to analyze the future and development trends of China’s online publishing industry. The main case study is about Cloudary, which is very representative and successful.Online publishing companies like Cloudary are increasing every year. With the construction of online culture, support of national policies and development of technologies, China’s online publishing industry shows great prospects and promising developing trends. However, there are inevitably a lot of problems, such as confused online publishing order, copyright issues, imperfect laws and regulations and regulatory issues, etc.. These problems are partly caused by the short history of online publishing and need us to explore. The reasons for these problems and how to solve these problems are the emphases of this thesis.
