| Though confromed to both the urgent call of educational openning-up and the trend of our times,TCSOL has met its challenges in the era of COVID-19,when plenty of Chinese teachers found it hard to teach abroad. The pandemic has also made Mandarinferver countries such as Tailand tend to the Internet Technology for help.A Sino-Tailand Long-distance TCSOL program was thus being launched with the effort of both parties. In light of this, the author took the opportunity of being a Chinese teacher in Jitjan High School to investigate the status quo of how online Chinese character teaching had been conducted and expore how best it can be conducted, via questionnaries and semistructural interviews.Specifically, the questionnaire is concerned with students’ learning experience of online Chinese character teaching and is mainly consisted of five-point Likert scales and multiple-choice questions. The interviews add up to our understanding of the reality of online Chinese character teaching in Jitjan High School. The results presented a unfavorable situation of online Chinese character teaching in this school, which can be summarized as follows: For teachers, they were too adapted to the traditional classroom to switch to the online mode,as exemplified by their infrequent use of online resources and unskillful online classroom management;some of them hadn’t been equipped with adequate knowledge of Chinese characters. And the students were easily distracted during online learning, which may be attributed to their current developmental and cognitive features;and the loneliness and boredom accumulated during online courses would impede their learning.Such being the case, the author proposed that current teaching methods should be optimized, more online learning resources should be developed and utilized, and optional Chinese character lessons should be established.Hopefully, these suggestions may contribute to the understanding of good online Chinese teaching class in Tailand. |
