This thesis intensively discusses and researches thelexicalization and function of the conjunction " Yushi(于是)",through theway from the outside to the inside, and combiningdiachronic description and synchronic comparison. There are five chapters in this thesis.Chapter One, the exordium, introduce the brief introduction of the research content, survey of predecessors’ researches, the theoretical and practical significance and the related corpus. Since there are slight differences in different dictionaries on " Yushi(于是)”,it is indispensable to make In-depth multi-angle analysis of" Yushi(于是)”.Chapter Two, from the diachronic perspective, we summarize the lexicalization process of Yushi(于是)’’,and also explore the conditions、mechanisms and motives of theprocess. We think the conjunction " Yushi(于是)"is formed from the " preposition+objective" structure.In the process, the mechanisms of "re-analysis" play a significant role.Chapter Three discusses the formal characteristics and collocation ability of " Yushi(于是)"synchronically. We describe its syntactic position in Spoken and Written Chinese and its style distribution, and analyze the locations, characteristics and semantic meanings of the objects which have been connected by " Yushi(于是)"." Yushi(于是)”isusually used in Written Chinese and Prepared Speech.Chapter Four mainly deals with the textual conjunctive function of "Yushi(于是)”.The structure gradations, semantic relations and conjunctive means of the conjunction are also discussed in this part."Yushi(于是)"canconnect clauses within both simple and complexsentences, or link sentences and paragraphs in texts, often serving as aconjunction to express many kinds of logical relations.Nowadays,"Yushi(于是)"isgoing to use as adiscourse marker.Thelast Chapter,the conclusion,sum up theresultsofthediscussionsfrom different aspects and pointsoutwhat this thesis lacks andhasn’ tbeendevelopedtodiscuss and wherefurtherresearch is stillneeded.
