The fundamental task of teaching Chinese as a second language is to develop thecommunicative competence of Chinese learners, but some special languagephenomenons in Chinese always become the barriers in the process of communication,and affect the improvement of their communicative competence. The “Shuo”Parenthesis is one of them, which is dispensable in sentence structure, has noconceptual meaning, but can not only paly the roles of supplement, explanation,contrast, summary, but also express the speaker’s emotions. So the important positionand role of “Shuo” Parenthesis can not be ignored.This paper aims to study on the “Shuo” Parenthesis, and comprises the followingsections:The first chapter collects the researches of “Shuo” Parenthesis, including thecontent, method and meaning.The second chapter delimits the “Shuo” Parenthesis, describes the characteristicsof its syntactic, semantic and pragmatic and classifies the “Shuo” Parenthesis from apragmatic perspective, including connected and unconnected, then analyzes theunconnected ones from cognition, view, emotion, and analyzes the connected onesfrom explanation, supplement, contrast, adversative, inference, summary.The third chapter studies the acquisition of “Shuo” Parenthesis of the seniorforeign students by questionnaire, and the survey results indicate that the acquisitionof “Shuo” Parenthesis is phased, has a positive correlation with context and languageproficiency, and has a prominent difficulty.The fourth chapter puts forward feasible teaching suggestions according to thesurvey results,.At last, the conclusion shows the main opinions of this paper and points out thedeficiencies.
