This thesis studies the C-E translation of Introductions to Courses in Business and Management under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. These introductions are reference materials provided to international students for course selection by the School of Business and Management. This thesis analyzes the stylistic features of this source text, and finds that this text is characterized by its expository nature, formal language, careful selection of simplified, specialized and nominalized words, and frequent use of simple and compound sentences. On the basis of the content and stylistic features of this source text, the thesis adopts Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory as the guiding principle and selects omission, borrowing from parallel texts, free translation for the translation of course names; conversion, borrowing from parallel texts for the translation of words; and conversion and division for the translation of sentences in the text. The result of the translation practice shows that the translation skills selected on the basis of the content and stylistic features of the source text under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory helped to guarantee the quality of the C-E translation of the text and achieve the maximum equivalence between the two languages.
