Since the successful holding of the 2008 Olympic Games, China has become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world. More and more foreign tourists come to China. Tourism plays an important role in China's economic and cultural development. Nowadays, tourism has become a pillar industry. In order to enlarge Chinese tourism contents and enrich the tourism interest and cultural connotations, numerous Chinese materials have been translated into English. Meanwhile, great attention has been paid to the study of tourism English. One reason is that any mistranslation could lead to foreign tourists'confusion or misunderstanding about Chinese culture, and result in bad impression on Chinese tourism culture. What is worse, it could even affect the transmission of Chinese culture.Like other special English, tourism English has a large number of branches. According to its expressive forms, it can be divided into oral English and written English. In terms of language function, it can be divided into guide English, tourist traffic English, hotel English and scenic spots introductions English, etc. As an important part of tourist materials, the scenic spots introductions give the first impression on foreign tourists most directly, and thus making it the most urgent part that should be specially addressed.Different from other special English, English for tourism scenic spots introductions has its special functions, which is used for tourists'entertainment, relaxation, fun, learning, or for other reasons. In this thesis, Functional Equivalence, which was put forward by Nida in 1993, is adopted as the theoretical framework of the study. In this thesis, English of scenic spots introductions has been discussed from different perspectives according to Function Equivalence Theory including linguistic aspect, cultural aspect, and stylistic aspect, and each aspect has been studied in depth. The thesis adopts the methodology of qualitative analysis. In the process of study, a large number of scenic spots introductions materials will be collected and analyzed. And all corpuses used in the thesis come from tourist enchiridions, tourism books, tourism public materials and tickets, etc.Besides the illustrations of tourism scenic spots introductions, four requirements for translators are discussed in this thesis: bicultural competence, bilingual competence, expertise knowledge and sense of responsibility. Those basic characters are urgently needed for translators to enhance translation quality. This thesis attempts to find out the deficiencies of tourism translation in recent research, and make some suggestions for translations of scenic spot introductions from the perspective of Functional Equivalence.
