This thesis is to explore feasible and effective translation strategies and methods to guide translation of ITH by making research of ITH with the guidance of functional equivalence theory. With the globalization process accelerating, translation plays a vital role in cross-cultural communications and economic contacts. The translation of ITH (Introduction of Tourism Handicrafts) gradually becomes a platform and a way of communications, and it is especially important for Shaanxi which is a popular tourism destination. So far, tourism translation has achieved fruits, while most of them are related to tourism slogan, introduction of scenic spots as well as special local food. As a result, there are few studies about tourism handicrafts. After analyzing ITHs collected, the author divides translation errors of ITH into three categories:linguistic translation errors including spelling errors, semantic errors and syntactic errors, cultural translation errors including cultural misinterpretation and undertranslation and pragmatic errors including Chinglish, word-for-word translation and inconsistency between source text and target text. In this research, the author interviews20foreign visitors and asks them to read translation examples with errors to make clear the following questions:(1) Do they have the habit of buying handicrafts?;(2) Which kind of error is most confusing for their understanding of ITH?;(3) Is their impression on a product or a producer related to errors in ITH?;(4) Is the possibility of purchasing the product related to errors in ITH?.This author makes analyses of these errors with examples, finds causes of these errors and puts forward strategies and methods to guarantee translation quality. At the same time, the author proposes the principles of ITH translation:accuracy, understandability and fluency. This thesis aims to provide related translators with references.
