The same Buddhist scripture has been translated into different Chinese versions,by comparing them can seek the process of historical development of Chinese vocabulary,which is of great value to vocabulary study of middle ancient.dao xing ban ruo jing(《道行般若经》)istranslated by zhi lou jia chen(支娄迦谶)and xiao pin ban ruo bo luo mi jing(《小品般若波罗蜜经》)is translated by jiu mo luo shi(鸠摩罗什),two translations from the same text.By comparing the words of Buddhist scripture can find the different translating styles and study the vocabulary development from East Han Dynasty to East j in dynasty.This paper falls into4parts:In the first chapter,the author introduces the value of different Chinese versions of the same Buddhist scripture in the study of words and current reseach. then the author tells the reason why selects these two versions and the methods that has been used.though the comparing study of Dao xing Ban Ruo Jing(《道行般若经》)with other versions has started long ago,nobody studies the Chinese vocabulary of Dao xing Ban Ruo Jing(《道行般若经》)and xiao pin ban ruo bo luo mi jing (《小品般若波罗蜜经》),the total number of words and volumes of these two Chinese translations of Buddhist scripture is nearly,so the study of them is creative. In the second chapter,the author compares the two Chinese translations of Buddhist scripture,especially compareds the development of vocabulary of the two Chinese translations of Buddhist scripture in both Buddhist words and general words,then the author choses the words that different from the other one and combines manual analysis and computer statistical to study,by this method,the author descrips these words. In the part of Buddhist words,the author mainly focuses on the transliterated words and free translated words:on the one hand,the author focus on the words have been translated into different Chinese words,then the author analyses them with the help of the current reseach findings, Finding the reason that the same Buddhist word translated into different transliterated words is extremely complex. On the other hand,the author has found when translating the same Buddhist word,zhi lou jia chen(支娄迦谶)prefer transliterated word,jiu mo luo shi(鸠摩罗什)prefer free translated word,which suggests that Chinese translation of Buddhist scriptures is trending free translation. In the part of general words,the author focus on syllable of general words,and describes the development of words of dao xing ban ruo jing(《道行般若经》)and xiao pin ban ruo bo luo mi jing(《小品般若波罗蜜经》),Finding that the development is extremely complex.there is phenomenon that disyllabic word replaces monosyllable and phrase,and monosyllable replaces disyllabic word,and the syllable of word is unchangeable. The bisyllablization of vocabulary is the general trend. So the author draws the conclusion—bisyllablization of vocabulary,which supporting the vocabulary study of middle ancient Chinese.In the third chapter,the paper reveals the great value of the comparative study of these two Buddhist scriptures:firstly, By comparing the words of two Buddhist scriptures,the author reseaches words’meaning.When reading the Buddhist scriptures,the author can not understand the meaning of words,and can not find them in all kinds of dictionaries,or the meaning given by the great Chinese dictionary can not conform the contex.so comparative study of these two Buddhist scriptures can provide new ideas. secondly,when having some doubts about correctness of Buddhist scriptures and notes of collation,the author can correct errors of Buddhist scriptures,including different cases such as "redundancy of words","mistaken words"and"lose of words"etc. Thirdly,when studying the words of the two Buddhist scriptures,the author consults "the great Chinese dictionary"(《汉语大词典》), find ing many documentary evidences behind the time of the two Buddhist scriptures.the author finds these words to supplement "the Great Dictionary of Chinese"(《汉语大词典》)...
