The study of ancient literature’s citation is a perspective of modern academic research.Er Ya is one of the Thirteen Scriptures and has become the focus of the research since ancient times. However, at present, the researches about Shuo Wen’s citations are so many, but the researchs about Er Ya’s citations are too few. According to the existing researches, the research focus has been changed from the Middle Ancient to the Early Qing Dynasty. Wang Niansun is one of the most famous scholars in the Qing Dynasty and Du Shu Za Zhi is one of his famous works. There are 246 items having quoted Er Ya in Du Shu Za Zhi. The research of them is vividly portrayed, but none of them has been found yet. Basic on the purpose of Wang Niansun’s citations of Er Ya, the work of classifications, commentaries and summaries are hoped to be beneficial to the academia.The rest of the paper is organized as follows. In Chapter 1, the brief introduction of Wang Niansun, Du Shu Za Zhi, Er Ya and the research status has been done to explain the reason of chosing the topic. In Chapter 2, the purposes of Wang Niansun’s citations of Er Ya are divided into three parts, including the meaning explanations through words’ fonts, the meaning explanations through words’ pronunciations and the corrections of words’ errors. In details, Er Ya Zheng Yi, Er Ya Yi Shu and ErYa Shu Wen are quoted for the commentaries of the meaning explanations through words’ fonts. Though the number of the meaning explanations through words’ pronunciations is the least, their achievements are the greatest,which could be divided into the borrowed words with the same pronunciation, the continuous words and the universal words with the same source. In Chapter 3, the features of Wang Niansun’s citations of Er Ya are induced into six parts, including that different texts are few and the version is reliable, evidences and doubts are adequate and the best are chosen, the numbers of items and examples are different, the same example is quoted repeatedly in different items, the terminologies are different in the meaning explanations through words’ pronunciations and the errors’ causes are various. In Chapter 4, the value and enlightenment are generalized. In a word, the meaning explanations through words’ pronunciations are the uppermost priority, their history, their borrowed words’ relationships, their demonstrations’ modes, their terms’ differences and their modern revelations are throughout the whole thesis.
