In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties’ painting circles, Dan Dang belongs tonon-mainstream painters. However, So far it seems, his unique painting style and artisticcharm enjoyed a place in Yunnan art history, and even in the history of Chinese art. Dan DangPlays a strong artistic personality, with a free and natural style, Zen in show, Zen paintingunity, it has a far-reaching influence in painting and theory. Dan Dang’s art acts withtraditional culture as the background, he takes the essence of predecessors, with a specialpersonal experience and the feeling of artistic creation in painting, and permeates his ownpsychedelic income in the creation of Zen enlightenment and Zen interest, which has createdhis unique way of artistic style.This paper describes Dan Dang’s landscape paintings from four parts of the artisticcharacteristics and accomplishments, and the impact on Chinese art history they produced.First, with Dan Dang’s family background and life experiences as a basis, it introduces hismentoring relationship, thus to understand Dan Dang’s arts source of ideas. Second, itsummarizes Dan Dang’s arts, briefly analyzes achievement in poetry, calligraphy and paintingaspects. Third, through two concepts of "poetic realm" and "Zen meaning", it analyzes DanDang’s landscape painting, expresses its prospect of Zen poetry connection, the fusion ofspirits and images, and artistic expression and influence of Zen thought to Dan Dang’spainting. Started from external images of Dan Dang’s landscape painting, this thesis analyzesthe drawings’ peculiarity with his painting inks and Work patterns, reveals the thoughts ofinner theory. The fourth part of this paper is a summary of Dan Dang’s life and his art.The value of Dan Dang in Chinese art history, is not only achievements in poetry,calligraphy and painting he made, but also his ideology and theory of art for posterity endlesslearning, which mainly contains more humanistic feelings and his artistic spirit, it attractsmore thinking more than Calligraphy and painting works themselves.
