| Borderline personality disorder is a serious mental disorder with a characteristic pervasivepattern of instability in affect regulation, impulse control,interpersonal relationships, andself-image. It affects about1–2%of the general population—up to10%of psychiatricoutpatients, and20%of inpatients. The disorder is characterised by severe psychosocialimpairment and a high mortality rate due to suicide—up to10%of patients commit suicide, arate almost50times higher than in the general population. Because of substantial treatmentuse, patients with borderline personality disorder require more mental-health resources thando individuals with other psychiatric disorders.Due to higher suicide rates and difficulties in treatment, BPD is a hot research field ofpsychiatry in the West. However, borderline personality disorder has not entered Chinaclassification and diagnostic criteria for mental disorders systems in the country. In China,research on borderline personality disorder is still very lacking, only a few introductoryoverviews of research has been published.Borderline personality disorder response to environmental stimuli faster and stronger thanthe other personality disorder. They are highly sensitive to emotional stimuli with a strongemotional reaction, and thus exacerbated the emotions aroused, leading to difficulties inemotion regulation. Typically, patients with borderline personality disorder emotionalrecovery is very slow. Such sentiments influence susceptibility traits of borderline personalitydisorder patients with mood regulation. In terms of negative emotion, borderline personalitydisorder patients experience much more negative emotions and feel large fluctuations. Theydo not know how to control and regulate negative emotions, which explains the kind ofpersonality disorder in patients with high self-mutilation. This also explains the reason forsuch a high personality disorder self-mutilation, suicide or other impulsive behaviors.This study investigated the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University,and theEighth Hospital in Shijiazhuang (Shijiazhuang City psychological crisis intervention center)inpatients and outpatients.Patients score5or more points with PDQ-4+will have a semi-structured interviews according to diagnosis of personality disorder questionnaire (SCID-II). Finally, by twopsychiatrists to confirm high qualification for the DSM-IV for the diagnosis of borderlinepersonality disorder criteria. The control group was selected from the volunteers matched forage and sex whose score were2points or less according to PDQ-4+. All subjects wereexcluded from hallucinations, delusions and other symptoms in patients with severe mentalillness, as well as quality control in patients with cerebral disease, memory impairment andmental retardation and significant in the history of surgical diseases.This study used questionnaires, interviews and experimental method, trying to understandthe borderline personality disorder’s response to negative emotional stimuli,the experimentused revision emotional Oddball paradigm and record the reaction time and accuracy of thesubjects. Research is divided into two experiments, the first experiment investigate theresponse of patients with borderline personality disorder with negative emotional stimulipotency intensity (high negative, low negative, neutral).The second experiment try toinvestigate the response of patients with borderline personality disorder to different kind ofnegative emotional stimuli (animals, environment, people).Experiment material was chosedfrom Chinese Affective Picture System (CAPS) record the reaction time and accuracy of thesubjects.In conclusion, compared with the general population, under the influence of negativeemotional stimuli, patients with borderline personality cognitive control ability is poor.Inaddition, patients with borderline personality disorder on the depth of negative emotionprocessing is significantly higher than the general population.Borderline personality disorderin patients with deep processing of negative emotions is not affected by negative emotionalvalence intensity, but is likely to be affected by the content of negative emotional stimuli. |
