The year1982witnessed the implement of the Household ContractResponsibility System, that is, to divide field to households. In1985, China carriedout a series of revolutions of economic system in rural areas, including residentidentity card system. Since then, the rural population of mass flow, coupled with theexpansion and involution in marriage ring derived from the population flow acrossvillage, county, city and even across province, has made it difficult for males to selectspouses. The chance for a male from rural areas to make contact with a female and getmarried has become smaller mainly due to the imbalance of sex ratio of newly-bornbabies in countryside, the skewed gender ratio of marriage age population, therestriction of rural economic conditions, the out-flow of country girls and ruralwomen marriage migration resulted from marrying to other places.This paper adopts the method of historical anthropology to investigate themarriage age population in two places of She ethnic minority in Luofu dialect area inGuangdong province (Zengcheng district in Guangzhou and Boluo county). Thispaper aims to examine the spouse-choosing dilemma facing males in She ethnicminority, who suffer marriage squeeze after the imbalance of sex ratio of marriage agepopulation and marriage migration of a number of She ethnic minority females. Fromthe perspective of society, spouse selection is not only couched in the mutualattraction and selection, but is the result of cultural seduction. Thus, it is a matterthat has to do with every aspect of social life. The changes of the marriage circlereflect the change of marriage. This paper aims to investigate the spouse choosingdilemma of males from She ethnic minority group from the perspective of changes ofthe marriage ring, which would be a starting point to do a study on changes ofintermarriage circle, spouse choosing dilemma of males, and social changes in Sheethnic minority group.The material collection for this paper includes the data collected by the author bymeans of fieldwork and references from home and abroad. After deeper research, the author believes pessimistically that the marriage squeeze phenomenon that faces theShe men will continue to increase and mate choice dilemma will continue for manyyears.This paper mainly consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, whichintroduces the rationale, significance, literature review, research thought, methodology,merits and demerits. The second part is to introduce the historical origin of She ethnicminority group, natural geographical conditions, population and economy in thefieldwork area. The third part is to investigate the difference in spouse-choosingcriteria and pattern before and after the revolution and opening up policy; to analyzethe changes and features of intermarriage circle of the She ethnic minority group; toanalyze the features of inherence of marriage within the members of the minority,She-Han intermarriage expansion, the features of the temporary marriage ring of theminority, the factors at play as to the change of the marriage ring and its effect, etc.The last part analyzes the bachelor group phenomenon of the minority village.
