A Primary Discussion Of The Chronology Of The Donglongshan Culture And Its Developing Process

The Donglongshan Culture is a kind of archaeological culture which is located inthe Southeast area of Shanxi Province and the upstream of Danjiang(丹江) River,named after the Donglongshan (东龙山)site. Its main pottery collection includes scabpot with one ear, pot with two ears, two ears pot decorated by string pattern in its longneck, one ear kettle with long neck, triple ears pot, long collar pot with roundabdomen, pot edged with lace, round abdomen pot with round bottom, jar, and so on.And its time is equal to the early phase of Xia （夏）Dynasty.In the basis of completely collecting the relevant date, this thesis aims to build achronology of the area by dividing the typical site—the Donglongshan(东龙山) siteinto groups, using the approach of chronology and stratigraphy. Moreover, the thesisalso wants to analyze other related sites, in order to understand their mutualrelationship with the Donglongshan(东龙山) site. After analysing the basic potcollection, we divide the Donglongshan(东龙山) Culture into four periods. Its firstperiod is slightly early the first period of the Erlitou(二里头) Culture, the secondperiod is equal to the first period of the Erlitou Culture, and its third period isequivalent to the second period of the Erlitou （二里头）Culture, and its fourth periodis similar to the late period of the Erlitou（二里头） Culture. The Donglongshan（东龙山） Culture’s chronology is around the1930BC-1680BC.Based on the results of period, the thesis discusses the structure, origin and flowof the Donglongshan（东龙山） Culture by means of the method of cultureingredient analysing. We hold that the component of the Donglongshan （东龙山）Culture is complicated. It has the elements of the Keshengzhuang （客省庄）Culture,the Qijia （齐家）Culture coming from the west region, Yehezi type（页河子类型）in the Ningxia Province, the Fu tradition tracing to the Exi XIajiang （鄂西峡江）region, the Wangwan Sanqi （王湾三期）Culture, traditional factor, and the results of innovation. However, the Qijia （齐家）Culture plays a more important role in thewhole Donglongshan （东龙山）Culture. Furthermore, we suppose that these peoplebelongs to the Qijia （东龙山）Culture in the west. After they settle in the area, theyaccept different culture composition, leading to the unique style of the Donglongshan（东龙山） Culture. As for its development, we incline to the view that it has beenthroughly replaced by the Erlitou （二里头）Culture coming from the Yuxi （豫西）region, and its remains also become a part of the former.As for the dynamic development of the Donglongshan （东龙山）Culture, weassert its first period is the formative period, the second is its developing period, whilethe third period begins to decline, until to the fourth relic period.
