On The Chinese-English Interpretation Of Non-subject Sentences

With the improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength and internationalstatus, the chances for Chinese leaders to appear on the international arena are becomingmore and more, making interpretation more and more important. To express China’swillingness and position to the world audiences clearly needs the integrated work ofinterpreters. As interpreting is featured by short time, interpreters face a lot of pressure.What’s more, the non-subject sentences tend to be a challenge for the interpreters.The non-subject sentences in Chinese are a special language phenomenon; as a result,no exact equivalents can be found in English on some occasions. Differences in languageand sentence order make the interpretation of non-subject sentences a difficulty. This paperchooses the speeches delivered Premier Li Keqiang at the annual conference of2012BoaoForum for Asia and President Xi Jinping at the annual conference of2013Boao Forum forAsia. By studying the two speeches, the author attempts to summarize some strategieswhich can be used in non-subject sentences interpretation. The author also wishes toprovide some tactics in improving the efficiency and quality of interpretation.
