This is a translation project report on Cultural Studies:Two Paradigms, a significant academic achievement by Stuart Hall, one of the founders of cultural studies. In the light of unit of translation theory, the report intends to analyze some typical examples of the translation. Unit of translation is divided into six levels by Barkhudarov:phoneme level, morpheme level, word level, phrase and expression level, sentence level and discourse level. From the first to the fourth level, the present author mainly discusses the translation of human names, the inflectional affix-s/es/ies, abstract words, as well as some phrases. At sentence level, the methods of reverse order and division are applied to translation. At discourse level, cohesion, coherence, intentionality and acceptability become the guidelines in translation. After the analysis and discussion of the examples, the report concludes that unit of translation is appropriate for the translation of this text. The author reviews the translation strategies and methods in order to improve translation skills in the future.
