This is a report on translation of an excerpt from Issues and Options inLanguage Teaching, a companion to Fundamental Concepts of Language Teachingwritten by H·H·Stern. The thirteen chapters of this book deal with theories oflanguage teaching, specific language teaching techniques and the relationshipbetween the two. Also, the book talks about teaching strategies that can be adoptedby language learners with an aim to improve the analyzing ability of reader, which isof great importance for actual teaching and learning of second language.The excerpted part from the book introduces different ideas about implicit andexplicit teaching strategies, specific teaching skills and applicable situationsaccordingly followed by a summary and a comment of the book. There are a lot oftechnical terms, similar and same expressions and long complicated sentences insource text. Therefore, the project report adopts assisted software and finishestranslation with techniques exemplified by parallel text, proposition segmentationand integration. Then this report is completed on the basis of analysis of the wholeprocess.This report has four parts. Part one introduces the translation project includingits background, process and significance. Part two deals with the information of thesource text, including the writer, the content of source text and the characters of theexcerpt. Part three discusses the keys and difficulties of translating practice,preparation of translator, translation unit as the guiding theory and correspondingcases. Part four is a summary of this project, talking about the experience as well asthe remaining problems.
