A prison is an organ of the State for executing criminal punishments, where prisoners sentenced to death penalty with a two-year suspension of execution, life imprisonment, or fixed-term imprisonment according to the legally effective judgments and orders by People’s Court, are imprisoned and reformed. Abreast with the scientific development of prison administration over the past years, the Central Committee of PRC has determined to set the recommitting of crime rate by ex-convict personnel the primary criteria to evaluate prison administration. Quality of prisoners’ education and reformation has been lifted to a new historical level. As new requirements were raised for building a cultural power in the report to the18th NCCPC delivered by President Hu Jintaojudicial departments have attached great importance to prison culture construction, especially establishing education mode with cultural characteristics in primary-level units-prison areas, which are close to prisoners. Through education and cultural influence, prisoners’ cognition will be rectified by learning the core value system of socialism. They will be able to have moral sense. Their inner world could be enriched, personality could be improved or even rebuilt. Re-committing crime will be reduced at the maximum level, promoting the realization of harmonious development of the society.The researches were based on the cultural construction results of Prison Area X of Shandong W Prison, while using questionnaires to find out the degree correlation between prisoner’s population variables, personalities and the adaptability to prison culture. And the results were:a. The researches were compiled in accordance with prison culture adaptability questionnaire which had four dimensions including honesty, faith, harmony and goodness with a internal consistency coefficient of.839and GFI construct validity of.832. The results showed that the questionnaire had good reliability and validity.b. In prisoners’ population variables part, the education level of prisoners was only siginificantly positively correlate with the dimension of "faith". The number of years that prisoners already served and their daily performance showed significantly positive correlation with their adaptability to prison culture, while crime types and times of getting commutation were insignificant. The number of years that prisoners already served and their daily performance appeared to be significant positive predictor of the adaptability to prison culture. These showed that the higher education level prisoners had, the more confident of getting reformed they were, the more insistant they were on their beliefs, and the higher credibility of prisons’ reformation were. Prisoners accepted more influence by prison culture while serving longer time, the easier they would accept prison cultural education if they performed positively in daily reformation. c. By EPQ personality questionnaire survey, the research found significantly negative correlation between prisoners’ personality psychoticism and neuroticism and their adaptability to prison culture. Personality showed insignificantly correlation with the dimension of prison culture. Psychoticism and neuroticism of personality dimension had significant negative predictive effect. The conclusion showed that the higher level psychoticism personality dimension prisoners had, the less they were adapted to prison culture, while the higher neurotic personality dimension the less acceptable to cultural education.
