The Ageing Of The Urban Elderly:Active Or Disengaging?

The aging of China’s population and the life by per capita extension make the aging status of old people gradually to the attention of the society from all walks of life. This study is based on Activity theory and Disengagement theory, it includes the concept of "active" and "disengaging".It tries to explore the interactional relationship between the life of urban elderly and the attitude toward aging of urban elderly. This study is made by the fieldwork in the community, the research object of the study is the urban elderly. The data collection method are questionnaires and in-depth interviews, the analysis strategy is based on cases study, through the research, this paper gets the following conclusions:1. the life of urban elderly and the attitude toward aging of urban elderly can keep consistent with Activity theory and Disengagement theory;2. the life of urban elderly has a close relationship with the attitude toward aging of urban elderly,but it’s not one-to-one relationship,active life does not means active attitude. According to the study, the researcher comes up with three Suggestions.that can be the reference of social work service and elderly welfare policy:1. Promote the optimization life of urban elderly;2. Respect the subjectification opinion of the elderly;3. Expand integrated social work practice.
