As our country enter into the crucial period of reform and development, it is prone to various group events, which influence the social harmony and stability and the overall situation of reform and development. Apparently, group events reflect different kinds of contradictions and problems in transition of China’s society. However, thinking in a deep going way, political trust in public power is exposed mainly from all of these contradictions, that is governments’ credibility. As we all know, the local government is the main body of disposing group incidents. To enhance its credibility and establish a fair, honest, and efficient government is of great significance. In this paper, through literature research methods, comparative study and empirical research, the author analyzes the causes of group events occu rred in the transition period, the connotation of the credibility of the government and the significance of strengthening the credibility of local government. The author notes that the decline in authority is an im portant cause of high incidence of group events, only by improving services, legal system, democracy, e fficiency and responsibility of local governments, can we deal with the mass events scientifically and eff ectively, among which, the loss of credibility of local governments and evaluation standards are the inno vation of this paper.The full text is divided into five parts; Introduction, The first chapter, the basic connotation of the c redibility of the government, The second chapter, the credibility of the government in group events, The third chapter, the significance of the credibility of the government building and evaluation and The fourt h chapter, suggestions to deal with the group events.
