Korean War was a military contest in Asia at the beginning of the Cold War between the two camps led by the United States and the Soviet Union respectively. As a non-aligned country, India took a favorable position to use its own independence away from the two camps and played a positive role in preventing the division of Korea, limiting the expansion of the war and contributing to the realization of the truce. The paper takes the perspective of India and the Korean War and discusses the impact of the Korean War inflicted by India’s diplomatic channels in order to have a comprehensive understanding of the role played by India in the Korean War.This article includes an introduction, body and conclusion three parts, the main contents are as follows.The Introduction section outlines the research status of the chosen topic and the significance of objectives of the study.The first chapter introduces the origin of the problem of Korea and Indian views on the Korean issue. Based on the consideration of the strong-country strategy and its own security, India took part in resolving the Korean issue through the United Nations and made different diplomatic efforts to prevent the division of Korea. Although India’s efforts failed to stop the division of Korea, as a newly independent state, India played a worthwhile role in safeguarding world peace.The second chapter discusses India’s reaction on the outbreak of the Korean War and its countermeasures. India called on North Korea immediately stopping the military operations and withdrawing its army to the north of the38th parallel, but not in favor of the formation of the United Nations forces and sending them to Korea, against the UN troops crossed the military demarcation line.India was worried that the expansion of the war threaten the peace in Asia and even its own independence, reflecting political aspirations of the newly independent country when confronting some major international crisis.The third chapter focuses on the cease-fire motion of13neutral countries at the United Nations led by the Indian to facilitate the cease-fire of both sides in the Korean War. India played an important role in succeeding passing the cease-fire bill of13countries in UN by animatedly communicating with the United States. After China and the DPRK rejected the motion of13countries, India continued to contribute to the cease-fire campaign and had a positive effect for the mitigation of tensions of the warring parties.The fourth chapter focuses primarily on in truce talks, during the deadlock due to the issue of repatriation of prisoners of war, India contributed to the solution of the problem of prisoners of war by diplomacy. After the armistice agreement signed, the Indian devoted to the work for the repatriation of prisoners of war. All these contributions showed India played an important role in the truce-reaching issue.Conclusion summed up India played an important role in preventing the expanding of the Korea War and facilitating the reaching of cease-fire of warring parties primarily by diplomatic measures on the back of UN. The fact shows, as a newly independent state abiding by the Non-aligned Policy, that India actively involved in the processing of the major international crises outside the two camps, but it also can make a difference.
