UN Secretary-General Lie's Response To Major International Issues

The UN Secretary-General is one of the most important positions of the United Nations.It is responsible for handling the affairs of the United Nations and maintaining international peace and security.As the first UN Secretary-General of the United Nations,Trygve Lie's term is in the period of the outbreak of the Cold War and the gradual division of East-West relations.Therefore,his main task is to deal with major international issues and maintain the stability of the international situation.This article focuses on analyzing Lie's response in the first Middle East War,the 1948 Berlin Crisis,Chinese Representation in the United Nations and the Korean War,with a view to forming a clear understanding of Lie and making an objective evaluation.The article includes introduction,text,epilogue,notes and references.The text consists of four parts.Taking four major international issues as specific cases,the article will discuss Trygve Lie how to deal with major international issues in the Cold War confrontation.The article believes that as the first UN Secretary-General,Lie has played the role of the United Nations to maintain international peace,security,and stability.When the first Middle East war broke out,Lie sent a report to the member states,appointed a special mediator to mediate the differences,and formulated an armistice agreement,which eventually led to the signing of the armistice agreement between the Arabs and Israelis,ending the first Middle East war and maintaining peace in the Palestinian areas.In order to lift the Berlin crisis,Lie immediately called for the Soviet-US-UK-French consultation,and proposed to simultaneously circulate the currency of the Soviet-occupied area in Berlin and lift the blockade restrictions.However,due to the lack of mutual trust between the East and West,his proposal was not adopted,but his work should be affirmed.On the issue of Chinese Representation in the United Nations,Lie has made efforts to issue a memorandum to the member states,and actively seek mediation with the major powers in an attempt to obtain support from the member states for China,but with little success.Although he failed to urge the major powers to change their attitude to support China,his work should be affirmed.After the outbreak of the Korean War,Lie believed that North Korea was an aggressor and assisted the United States in forming an UN Army to send troops to Korea,interfered in Korean affairs.As the scale of the war expanded,in order to restore peace on the Korean peninsula,Lie drafted a ceasefire proposal and proposed that the warring parties should hold a ceasefire negotiation.Under his coordination,the warring parties reached a consensus,entered the stage of "warring and talking" period,finally the warring parties signed an armistice agreement.Lie has done his best in a changing international situation,and strove to maintain the stability of the international situation which should give him enough attention.
