The development status of Chinese rural social work is specialization andadministrativization coexists with each other, and there are paradoxes in the process ofpractice, the paradoxes epitomize they all can’t better the governance structure in ruralsociety, and achieve professional mission of social work. The issue has become adevelopment bottleneck of current rural social work, but receives little attention in academia. This dissertation selects two classic cases in the practice field of rural social work, to discussthe paradoxes of two kinds of rural social work by case analysis, and analyze the cause ofparadoxes.Through the study find that The paradox of professional rural social work show up that itowns professional advantages, such as professional idea, value, and mission, which can beindependent of administrative system, and be able to work independently, but always bepowerless when faced with illegal rural governing structure, which because of its capacityconstraints and China’s special political system; The administrative rural social work is acountry’s institutional arrangement in essence, which can acquire a lot of support of politicalsystem resources, and promote rural economic development in a short time, but neglects thecomprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of rural politics, economy andculture. And it may help rural grassroots level to maintain illegal governance structure, to bepolitical accomplice unconsciously, and then runs squarely against the professional missionand aim of social work. The two patterns of rural social work will coexist in a long term. Theproblem that needed to be solved urgently for specialized rural social work is how tocoordinate with grassroots politics. Thus it can be seen that the paradoxes of rural social work is closely related with illegalrural governing structure, and this kind of governance structure goes hand in hand withgrass-root society involution by further analysis. Under the influences of identity restrictionand other factors, the administrative rural social work seems less likely to break the ruralsociety involution, and its own development is easy to fall into involution; The professionalrural social work carries new developing concepts and techniques of outside world, which can inject fresh blood for the development of rural society and be beneficial to break theinvolution of organizations of political power at the grass-roots level. In a word, this kind of paradoxes has serious impeditive functions for the development ofrural social work, how to properly solve the problem depends on the joint efforts ofcolleagues in the field of social work.
