With the increasing popularity of the Internet and the rapiddevelopment of the information and communication technology, thetraditional mode of the public opinion management, i.e. the official mediahas full control in critical incidents, now faces a huge impact. This impactnot only in the new media, especially since the we-media has greatly shakenthe predominance of the traditional media, but also in dealing with crisesby the government to meet the public’s right to know and to make innovationsin the scale and method of guiding public opinion. The Internet era is thetrend of the times and the accompanied impact is inevitable. In the we-mediaage, indiscretion can easily cause explosions of public opinion. Thereforeit is very imperative for the government to find its new position and newstarting points, and important for the government to lay a theoreticalfoundation for its new decision-making.Based on the systematic review of domestic and foreign existingresearch results, this article summarizes and concludes the distinguishingfeatures and profound influence of the we-media age. Through the analysis of “April28thJiaoji Railway Accident”,“Salt Robbing Incident” andother serious public crises in recent years, this article elaborates thechanges of the travel path of critical incidents in the we-media age andthe mechanism of the we-media in the occurrence and communication ofcritical incidents. Meanwhile, it analyses the problems of the ideas,functions and measures of the current government and puts forward thesuggestions through several typical problems of the government in dealingwith the public crises in the we-media age which are listed online.The article considers the government of the we-media age must changeits role from “the supreme instruction” announcer at first to “the latestinformation” announcer, further highlight the timely disclosure of thetruth and practically protect the right of public acquisition. At the sametime, the government must make greater efforts in strengthening onlinepublic opinion monitoring, perfecting emergency management system ofcrisis communication and consolidating the we-media utilization so as toavoid passive confrontation and actively deal with the critical incidentsin a proper way to gather social confidence and consolidate the governmentcredit.In addition, the government must emphasize humanistic color, valuelegislative control, and insure the humanization and long-acting effectof resolving crises so as to institutionally prepare for suffering fromsimilar incidents in advance.
