Chinese nationalism has rises in1990s, and it attracts widespread attention at home andabroad. Contemporary China is in the key period to realize modernization,"peaceful rise" andthe great renaissance of the Chinese nation. With the accelerating peace of Reform andOpening, Chinese national economy is growing and has more power in the internationalpolitical arena. The western countries have a contradictory mentality on China’s development.On the one hand the western countries are seeking dialogue and cooperation with China; onthe other hand they reject redistribution of international resources because of Chineseparticipation. The revival of contemporary Chinese nationalism is a response to the situationof China and the current world situation.Nationalism is a "double-edged sword". On the one hand, it can enhance nationalcohesion, and cultivate national pride and confidence; on the other hand, extreme nationalismhas destruction to social stability and economic development. Contemporary Chinesenationalism’s mainstream is healthy, but there are irrational factors in contemporary Chinesenationalism. The mainstream of Chinese nationalism has positive significance tomodernization and "peaceful rise" of China. Contemporary Chinese nationalism’s irrationalfactors hinder the construction of China, and breaks Chinese national image, and engenders aprecarious factor to the peace of China and the peace of the world.Irrational factors consist in common people. With the popularization of the Internet,irrational factors impact is widely. Irrational factors mainly consist in the emotional speechand behavior. Irrational factors are mainly caused by multiple factors, as the historical reasons,Chinese impetuous psychology, educational problems of Chinese government, externalpressure. Irrational factors will continue to exist in the next period of time. If we don’t dealwith them, they likely lead to extreme nationalism, and cause greater loss of Chinese.Therefore, we appeal to rational nationalism.This paper combs the main content of contemporary Chinese nationalism, and analyzesthe irrational factors of Chinese nationalism, and reveals negative influence of Chinesenationalism’s irrational factors to realize modernization and the great renaissance of theChinese nation, and reaches a conclusion that rational nationalism is advantageous to thedevelopment of China, and puts forward the effective ways to construct rational nationalism.
