On The Influence Of Chinese Traditional Political Culture About Citizens’ Political Participation Consciousness

It is clearly stated in the17th and18th NCCPC reports that we should broaden the rightof citizen’s ordered political participation.Political participation is the important content andsign of democratic politics development. We should not only strengthen the building of themechanism, procedures and channels of political participation, but also pay attention tosubjective factors which influence citizens ’ political participation. Therefore, the goal ofexpanding the citizens’ ordered political participation is the consciousness of citizen’spolitical participation.The political thought of feudalism is also very systematic and precise. Therefore,Chinese traditional political culture essentially refers to “Minister People’s Culture” and manyaspects are not suitable for the development of modern democratic politics. Under the systemof Minister People-oriented political culture, there are no citizens, but only the ministerpeople who are characterized by obedience and dependency. People think it is impossible toaffect politics by themselves, but only passively. Over time, people are not either eager to orhave the capacity to participate in political life, because they lack of awareness of politicalparticipation seriously. In terms of political psychology, political ideology and political value,master consciousness, concept of Royal power and human ruler in Chinese traditionalpolitical culture are deeply rooted in people’s heart. Master consciousness made citizens denythemselves’ right status; worship of Royal power made Chinese citizens admire authorityinfinitely and not dare issue their own voice in front of the authority. Ruler-holding madeChinese citizens subject their own destiny to the appearance of Ming Emperor and accept itpassively. Mean thought made the general public including intellectuals keep safe, haveself-preservation and far away from political activities.This article gives systematic analysis of negative factors of Chinese traditional politicalculture and deep thinking of limitation of awareness of civic political participation. It islooking for the historical and cultural reasons of citizen’s weak awareness of politicalparticipation in China and targeting to strengthen citizen’s political participation.First, the article explains the meaning of political culture and political participation and the relationship between them. Political culture and political participation are closely linked.Political culture is people’s attitude, belief, emotion and value towards political life, is thepsychological basis of political participation, and dominates human’s politicalbehavior.Awareness of contemporary political participation is the traditional Chinese politicalculture evolved over a long period, precipitation, combined with the current social patternsformed.For the second step, it makes analysis of the status of citizen political participation inChina and has cognitive for general characters of Chinese traditional political culture. Chinesetraditional political culture belongs to master political culture which has adverse of effect oncitizen political participation-they are long-term master consciousness, kingship doctrine andrule concept and so on still imprisoning political participation consciousness of contemporarycitizens in China to some degree. At the same time of criticizing it, we should also realize thepatriotism and responsibility consciousness in Chinese traditional political culture which takesactive effect on citizen’s political participation and should be inherited.Finally, on the basis of objective analysis of these issues, we try to propose concretesolutions. The entrenched feudal ideology has an effect that cannot be ignored for theformation of contemporary citizens ’ awareness of political participation. We should have anobjective and deep knowledge of Chinese traditional political culture and step up publicityand education, strengthen mechanism and expand participation on the basis of criticism,resulting in increasing citizen awareness of political participation.The government’s active guide makes citizens consciously strengthen their awareness,makes the mechanism of political participation continue to improve, participating channelsmore smooth,awareness of citizen political participation gradually step up and involvementeffectively be enhanced. As a result, the process of construction of Socialist Democraticpolitics will be continued to be promoted.
