Entering into21th century, with the rapid development of mining industry andconstruction industry, the demand on large size tires, especially large OTR tires aregreatly increased. Traditional tread building method for large size tires is fulfilled bymultiple tread extrusion and piece to piece application; there are many defects withthis method such as: incompact application, trapped air between components,misaligned splice, high cost and low efficiency etc. But the building method by treadstrip winder is more and more recognized by tire manufacturers due to its low laborintensity, high production efficiency and good quality of green tires. Thus, it is ofgreat practical significance to research and develop the tread strip winder with highefficiency and low cost in order to meet the requirements of tire companies both athome and abroad.This article mainly analyzes the construction of tread strip winder and designedcontrol program in order to realize a precise control on rubber strip by usingself-calibrated PID algorithm in the program as well as adoption of electronic cam tolaminate the complicated tread profile through uninterrupted and accurate positioningcontrol.Compare to the traditional winding method, it eliminates the scanning processon the base before winding, which has greatly saved winding time, the tread profile isslightly influenced from previous process and ensure higher repeatability accuracy.Inorder to guarantee the accuracy of winding weight and profile, a width measuringdevice is used to perform real-time measurement on the width of rubber strip duringthe transportation. Using servo control system to keep a constant stretch of rubberstrip so to maintain the stability of rubber strip before winding. By using LABVIEWvirtual instrument development platform to establish upper computer screen andrealize the functions of the whole machine, like date input, machine supervision, faultalarm and diagnosis and etc..
