Now the perfect integration of CAD/CAM is the most important problem in modern manufacturing industry. CAPP is the bridge between them. There are many problems in current CAPP systems, such as the parts information is not complete and the system is very complex. This paper uses the feature technology to describe and transfer the information of mode. And this paper uses the case retrieval technology in intelligent area. When a system needs to design the process of a new part, it can search a similar case which has the complete process. Then the process of the new part is completed. With these two technologies, the process can be completed more quickly and exactly in the CAPP system.This paper design a CAPP system for rotary parts based on NC machining. Firstly, this paper analysis the information expression of the parts and raises the definition of the feature information model. And this paper design the feature extraction based on the secondary development on Pro/E. Secondly, this paper analysis the processing characteristics of the rotary parts and built the feature case library. And then this paper establishes the coding system and the data structure of the case. Then, this paper design the program of case retrieval based on the case library, and the program of process combining. At last, using Pro/Toolkit-the secondary development of Pro/E, this paper design the CAPP system, also with the technology of Visual Studio2008and Microsoft SQL Server2008.
