The design for manufacturing process is one of the key items in the technical preparation for mechanical manufacture. It is the tache connecting the product design and the product manufacture in workshop. The process documents made from process design are of references for composing important documents guiding the production process and making the production plan and disposition.In this paper, the typical design frame for process specification for components is established based on the product characteristics of pressing parts and the features of production of railway wagon produced by Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock (Group) Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as QRRS) by studying the theory, method and supporting technology of internationally advanced CAPP and the specification and procedure of the manufacturing process design of QRRS. Based on these, the Visual Basic 6.0 is applied to realize the development of variant CAPP system for pressing parts of railway wagon.The order layering method is applied for blocking composing in system structure design. The system shall extract information from product drawing, manufacturing process document. The information shall be inputted by human-computer interaction. In the structure design for data base, the special control information shall be applied to realize the detailed description for data and minimize the redundancy. In the design for composed cards, the second development for labels such as dimension tolerance, geometric tolerance and roughness and the parameterized gallery is carried based on AutoCAD. By thus, the technical assurance measurements are provided for improving drawing effectiveness.The Group Technology (GT) is applied for system. The parts shall be coded according to part characteristic and grouped to family. The manufacturing process specification for master work piece for parts family shall be established. This manufacturing process shall be applied as the standard manufacturing process for these parts family. The corresponding standard manufacturing process and the recommended machining equipments shall be found by searching characteristic code of parts. These shall be selected to form the formal machining process.
