"Manchu Old File" Literary Reading

For a century, the study of <Archaic Manchu Archives> develops from scratch and even becomes so prevalent that absorbs considerable concern. The analysis of <Archaic Manchu Archives> usually focuses on history, linguistic, philology, graphics, bibliography, science of edition and so on, whereas the literary perspective is rarely explored.As the pioneer of Manchu literature, the literary value of <Archaic Manchu Archives> could not be allowed ignoring. For environment and scenes are depicted grandly, characters are described vividly, creation techniques varied sophisticatedly, words are natural and live and even full of rhythm, it sets a good model for the later Manchu literature.This paper takes the photocopy of <Archaic Manchu Archives>, which is edited by Feng Mingzhu and published by Taipei’s National Palace Museum in2006, as main research material, and is assisted with <Cabinet Collected Archaic Manchu Archives>(published by Liaoning nationality publishing house) and <Manchuria Veritable Records>(published by Zhonghua Boo Company). The paper consists of four parts:the first chapter is an introduction of the origin and content of <Archaic Manchu Archives>, and try to investigate its literariness; the second part analyzes the depiction of environment and scenes; the third chapter illustrates the creation methods of characters and categorize characters as different types on the basis of typical figures; the fourth chapter studies the narrative methods and properties, and language application. In the end, the main points of the paper are concluded, and the literature value of <Archaic Manchu Archives> is measured.Due to several reasons, the literary value of <Archaic Manchu Archives> does not obtain enough attention it deserves. As yet<Archaic Manchu Archives> is studied from the literary perspective by only a few scholars; doctoral dissertations and master’s thesis seldom dabble here. Consequently, on the basis of elder scholars’ achievements, this paper comprehensively elaborates <Archaic Manchu Archives> from the literary facet for digging out the literary possession, and absorb more attention from the academia, finally, I hope more scholars devote in literary exploration of <Archaic Manchu Archives>...
