ShiZi created in Warring States Period by ShiJiao, a scholar of Jin kingdom, contains extensive thoughts and connotations integrated with various schools including the Confucianists, Mohists, Taoists, etc, is a weighty work of Eclectics with its language reflected the usage before the flood. Former researches on ShiZi focus on its annotations arranging, the thoughts’adscription, comparisons among different compiling works, the glosses and the thoughts of ShiJiao, by contrast, researches on the turn of its language, especially its vocabulary, are weak. The vocabulary has been analyzed in the article vocabulary research of ShiZi while in this paper the method synchronic description and data statistics were combined used on the analysis of different vocabulary emerged in ShiZi including monosyllabic word, polysyllabic word, synonym and antonym, so the paper contains several respects as followed.Exordium first gives a simple introduction of ShiZi and its auther ShiJiao, then there would be a demonstration of the value language material provided and relevant research brings, finally, a brief explanation on the editions referenced was arranged. The first chapter mainly talk about the monosyllabic word of which each part of speech was under fully statistics, while the nouns were analyzed as emphasis; in this chapter, the vocabulary which would be detailedly analyzed were first classified into14sorts according to their significance, by doing this, we could have an investigation on the influence imposed by ancient social historic culture, and then,we could find monosyllabic words have many characteristics such as polysemous, rich, heritable, productive, etc, while at the same time, semantic relation of monosyllabic word, that is synonym and antonym, would be discussed separately. The second chapter mainly talks about the polysyllabic word. A test standard of polysyllabic word was first generalized by combining their usage and using former results as a source of reference, using this standard, all of the polysyllabic words were counted and arranged, after that, the polysyllabic words were analyzed individually from the structure, finally a quantizing analysis on the application will come out, in short, the result shows in quantity the polysyllabic words of modification-center and associative type have absolute advantages, predicate-object the second and subject-predicate the third, while a predicate-complement type hadn’t appeared at all; such phenomenon reflected the typical developmental process of polysyllabic word and implied some cause of the formation. The third chapter will give my research on the annotation. As plenty of annotation is the most intriguing aspect of the language ShiZi used, it will be systematicly analyzed from three aspects including the annotations’style, term and manner, the reason why I chose such three aspects as cut-in points is that I have found they were rudimentarily systematized in ShiZi and provided practical experiences during the evolution from annotation to glosses. Finally a summary of my research will be given, certainly, the shortcomings of it will also be pointed out.
