The Oven Fresco is a Chinese folk decorate on ovens in south of theYangtze river, usually vividly portraying the local folk customs and people’syearning for happiness. Its style and characteristic are flying its own colorsthroughout the Chinese folk art history.With times past by, modern equipment are swarming into folk familieswhile the oven frescos are fading away with the transformation fromagricultural civilization to industrial civilization. Part of the stove has notretained Living，and there are very few heritage artists draw the oven fresco,Many areas has shown the potential successors, its protection has reached acritical point. The purpose of this study is to lay the groundwork for future datacollection of the oven fresco, At the same time, for the value of the oven fresco,apart from the oven fresco functional and aesthetic features, as traditional folkart steps towards the age of industrial civilization, it’s not about the practicaland aesthetic function of the oven fresco but the historical and culturalmeaning.This paper first explores the cultural background and culturalcharacteristics of the oven fresco in south of the Yangtze river, Popular belief,human environment, customs and geography, the oven fresco in south of theYangtze river showing a unique artistic charm. And from several differentstages of development to do a comparison and analysis, a concise briefdescription of the origin and evolution of the oven fresco track, the thesisfurther analyzes its artistic values by illustrating the expression techniques,draw process, subject matters, artistic traits, the value and through comparisonwith other artistic pieces. At last the oven fresco will step down from thestage of history and become our memory. The last part of the thesis triggers areflection on how to protect and inherit the folk art in other forms.
