Nowadays, during the tendency of globalization, Teaching Chinese as a foreign language go far beyond the traditional way to the new way of international Chinese language teaching. The teaching task must base on the following conditions:adapting new situations of Chinese teaching for foreigners; researching further in the non-target language environment; grasping the characteristics and rules of acquisition of learners.This text, based on this background, chooses to research on the learning strategies in different language environment. The research subject involves30students of elementary level, who are learning Chinese medicine in Huachiew Chalermprakiet University. Strategy Inventory for Language Learning has been used as the research tool and Questionnaire and interview as the research method during our comparative study. The investigation focuses on the differences of selection and application of learning strategies in different environment, which including in Thailand and in China. The purpose of research aims at getting knowledge of the development of learning strategies in target language environment and non-target language environment, and also analyzing the causes of developments. Finally, the text also discusses some other elements, including sexuality, ethnic Chinese background, and the connection between academic record and learning strategies. The thorough investigation of dynamic developments of Thai students in different learning environment will get better understanding of their learning characteristics, put forward the teaching method, promote the teaching effect and benefit the development of Chinese teaching countermeasures to Thai students.Survey data, which goes through the descriptive statistics, variance analysis, and comparison with the results of interview, get the final results:First, in the target language environment, the rate of frequency, which concerning about the usage of learning strategies of Thai students of elementary level, ranks higher than non-target language environment; the learning strategies, from higher to normal, contains Compensatory Strategy, Social Emotions Strategy, Metacognitive Strategy and Cognitive Strategy. Second, there is significant difference in the change of Cognitive Strategy and Social Emotions Strategy in the target language environment, and there is no significant difference in Metacognitive Strategy and Compensatory Strategy. The Social Emotions Strategy, especially Social Strategy, varies greatly according to environment. Third, sexuality makes a little difference on the usage of learning strategies, and female students use a little more frequently than male. In target language environment, both sexes use learning strategies more frequently than non-target language environment, and the variation of female students is obvious. The effect of environment on female students is greater than male. Fourth, Chinese race background does influence the usage of learning strategies but the influence is not obvious. Non-Chinese race students use strategies more frequently than Chinese race students. In target language environment, both backgrounds students use strategies more frequently than non-target language environment, especially the Chinese race. The language environment influence Chinese race students more greatly. Fifth, there is no significant difference in the use of learning strategies between different score groups, and in general, the frequency of use, from top to bottom, contains High score group, Middle score group and Low score group. The rate of frequency in usage of learning strategies does relate to the academic record, although not so great. The academic record should be influenced by a lot of complex elements.
