As a carrier of images,Han Dynasty stone reliefs reflect to a certain extent the spiritual beliefs and concepts of people at that time. The tomb gate,as an entrance in a tomb building, not only serves to isolate the inside and outside, but also serves as a boundary between life and death. The content of tomb door portraits is rich, with its own thematic and systematic nature, and there are differences among regions. At present, academic research on the subject matter and content of Han Dynasty stone relief images has yielded fruitful results, but the study of tomb door portraits is rarely involved.Compared to other parts of the tomb building, the tomb door is more stable and reflects the connections and differences between regions. This article classifies tomb door portraits based on typology through sorting out the materials of tomb door portraits, combining portrait patterns and subject matter combinations, thereby observing and discussing the regional relationships of tomb door portraits,as well as the beliefs and themes reflected. This article first makes statistics and sorting out the tomb door portrait data, and carries out a classification study.Based on the structure of the tomb door,it is divided into nine types according to the portrait schema and theme combination relationship.Subsequently,a phased study of tomb door portraits in various regions was conducted to clarify the types, characteristics, and development rules of tomb door portraits in different regions and at different times. In order to clarify the relationship between the regions of tomb door portraits,a horizontal and vertical comparison of tomb door portraits in each region was conducted to obtain the relationship between the regions and the regional characteristics reflected by the differences. Finally, the particularity of tomb door portraits and the issue of thematic beliefs are discussed.Through the above research, this article summarizes that the development of tomb door portraits has the characteristics of stability and regularity.Through comparison,it is concluded that the tomb door portraits in various regions are related and interact with each other, and have their own preferences and regional characteristics in the selection of portraits.Based on the study of iconography, this paper reexamines the symbolic significance of tomb door portraits, and concludes that each district’s tomb door uses different images to express the same theme; It also reveals that the Han people attempted to imagine the entrance of the death space-the tomb gate-as a celestial entrance that could transcend death, namely, the "Heaven Gate",by means of images.
