The study of Chinese dialect has a history of over two thousand years. It focused on the phonetics and grammar instead of vocabularies since it started, especially the Taixing Dialect. We can barely find the papers studied systematically Taixing Dialect except some few articles and papers. Under this condition, this thesis takes the vocabulary of Taixing Dialect as the research object, based on all occurred vocabularies from the articles "Vocabulary of Taixing Dialect I II" and "Collection of Idioms of Taixing Dialect".Comparing it with Mandarin Chinese, analyzing its etymology and the changes of the vocabularies of Taixing Dialect during the past two decades, the body of this thesis describes Taixing Dialect itself. The thesis aims to reveal the characteristics of Taixing Dialect and the reasons of its changes during the recent past two years and the propagation of Mandarin Chinese.The thesis consists of three major parts except the preface, a conclusion and two appendices as well.The preface of the thesis talks about the geographic outline and the history of Taixing, the sounds features of Taixing Dialect and the research back ground of this thesis, like the study and the situation the researches which have been done on Taixing Dialect so far. And then the thesis introduces us the study methods used in this thesis.In the first chapter, the thesis reveals the features of vocabulary of Taixing Dialect by comparing itself with Mandarin Chinese in four aspects like:numbers of syllables, semantic characteristics word formation, coinage of Taixing Dialect from the prospective of lexicology.The second chapter talks about the inheritance and development of Taixing Dialect’s vocabulary to ancient Chinese vocabulary. The thesis applies sufficient dialect facts to explain that Taixing Dialect and ancient Chinese come down in one continuous line:the vocabulary of Taixing Dialect evidently has more monosyllable words and keeps more ancient words than Mandarin Chinese does. Besides, Taixing Dialect has evolved to some extent according its need.The third chapter talks about the recent changes happened to the vocabulary of Taixing Dialect in the last two decades. This last chapter aims to find out the reasons and factors that make the changes for Taixing Dialect. And it also tries to explore some effective ways to keep Taixing Dialect.The conclusion is a summary of the thesis, including the flaw, the insufficiency and the research prospect.
