It is in Qing Dynasty that our united multinational country is formed andconsolidated. And it is also in the early Qing Dynasty that central governmentalpolitical power mightily governed the administration of Tibet gradually, in whichSichuan-Tibet Road throughout Kham plays an important role. What’s more, the PondSin which is an outpost of the tax office connects mainland and Tibet and maintainsthe Road unimpeded effectively.The Tang Xun was set up in the early Qing Dynasty beside the Sichuan-TibetRoad. The ancient Tang Fan Trail and Tea Horse Road along with the exploration ofsetting the outpost and station beside the road leading to Tibet in order to strength therelationship between central government and Tibet marked the beginning of the TangXun.The advantaged natural geographical environment favored Sichuan-Tibet Roadbecoming an important channel connecting mainland and Tibet, which is also theresult of human being’s exploration for such a long period.Kangxi emperor dispatching armed forces for the first time is the solid base ofthe set of the Pond Sin. Later on, as the stability of Tibet, most troops werewithdrawed and the task of transporting the provisions and funds for troops waslightened. So some Tang Xun were dissolved as well. During Yongzheng period, inthe deal of Loeb Cangdan Jin rebellion and Al Bubba event, Qing governmentreinforced stationing and defending where was full of strategic significance andadjusted the stations in Kham. When P’o-lha-nas dominated Tibet, stations andoutposts along the leading Road were cut in quantity which weakened centralgovernment’s domination in Tibet. After Ju M Mort wood Zagreb Le events inQianlong Period, Qing government learned a lesson and realized the vital role theTang Xun played in keeping the Sichuan-Tibet Road unimpeded more further.Qianlong emperor’s dispatching troops relates a lot to the smoothness ofSichuan-Tibet Road and safety of the Tang Xun. The system of the Tang Xun at lastbecame mature in Qianlong period.Two lines were formed for Sichuan-Tibet Road in the early Qing Dynasty. Thenorth line is for business and the south one became the official road leading to Tibet.There are17Tang Xun and5provision stations in the south line which providepowerful safeguard of the dispatchment to Tibet and Kham. Furthermore, as the set ofthe Tang Xun, a large number of Han soldiers and businessmen went into Tibet andsettled down. These Han people married local aboriginals and worked together withthem which promoted the cultural communication between Han and Tibetans andintegration between ethic groups. The Tang Xun in Sichuan-Tibet Road contributes alot to the development of our frontier regions.
