With the rapid development of China’s foreign trade and increase of foreigneconomic activities, technical cooperation and cultural exchange, all kinds ofnegotiation activities have been increasing. Interpretation, as a mode of culturalexchange, is the bridge between different cultures. Different cultural backgrounds ofdifferent countries give rise to cultural differences, or even cultural conflicts. Therefore,how to resolve cultural conflicts is particularly important in the process of interpretation.This thesis is an attempt of exploring and expounding the strategies of resolvingcross-cultural conflicts together, by using examples in business negotiationinterpretation, so as to seek the methods of resolving cross-cultural conflicts in businessactivities.This thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter One is an overview of businessnegotiation interpreting. Chapter Two expounds the cross-cultural conflicts in businessnegotiation interpreting. Chapter Three discusses the strategies of resolvingcross-cultural conflicts in business negotiation interpreting. Chapter Four is theconclusion.The following strategies are put forward: pragmatic strategy of courtesy oreuphemism, pragmatic strategy of fuzzy translation, pragmatic strategy of compensationin cultural vacancies, pragmatic strategy by using summarized language, deletionstrategy, transposition strategy, exposition strategy with analysis of the problems incross-cultural interpretation. It is intended that these strategies can provide a referencefor those who are engaged in business negotiation interpretations.
