With the further integration of the world economy, the trade exchanges and transactions of companies between China and foreign countries are more frequent. However, due to such problems as language barrier and cultural differences, the communications have been hindered to a large extent. Therefore, interpreting is essential to the success in business negotiation. This report is mainly about the interpreting service the author provided for the business talks between Union Components(HK)Industrial Ltd. and its customer, Carlin System, Inc. from the United States of America. In general, the interpretation was successful, which covered company profiles, product information, the process of foreign trade and business negotiation.During the process of the interpretation, the author fully adopted pre-interpreting preparations and various interpreting techniques such as the techniques of catching key words, taking notes, short-term memory and some other principles including how to confirm subjects, syntactic linearity and concise principle under the guidance of the Skopos Theory. Finally, the author smoothly completed the interpreting task by reaching maximum benefits for the two sides, winning praise from both parties. Under the theoretical guidance of the Skopos Theory, the report intends to promote the interpreting theory and techniques adopted during the interpreting process. What the author gained the most from the interpreting practice is that he fully recognized that interpretation is highly comprehensive. Full pre-interpreting preparations, interpretation techniques and principles used properly during the process are essential if the interpreter wants to finish the interpretation task with excellence. No interpreting is perfect. Only by continual pursuing, maintaining interpretation practices and constant accumulation of experience in interpretation can one reach a higher level in interpretation quality. It is hoped that this report may function as a reference to interpreters who will work in the field of foreign trade.
