Chinese Body Language Analysis Of Intercultural Communication

In real life, when carry out exchanges between peoples, we often focus on the language ofcommunication, but ignore the existence of non-verbal communication. In fact, the non-verbal behaviors andlinguistic elements are like two sides of the communication, which are interdependent and mutuallyreinforcing. Since people come from different cultural backgrounds, the non-verbal communication is veryimportant. Body language is an important part of non-verbal communication in cross-cultural communicationprocess; it also occupies a pivotal position behind successful communication. Influenced by different culturalbackgrounds in English and Chinese, people who are in the English and Chinese cultural circle have manycultural differences in body behavior.This paper uses the theory and methods of comparative linguistics, discourses of the body languagewithin English and Chinese cultural background of a comprehensive, bi-directional, multi-angle comparativeanalysis. Comparative analysis of the material is mainly based on the daily life examples where the bodylanguages are actually used, as well as the examples collected from the Western classics. This thesis collectslarge numbers of examples, selects typical cases, and analyzes them in-depth.This paper is divided into five parts, as follows:Chapter One is the introduction. It introduces the study of history and current situation, including bodylanguage and the research work. The first section introduces the study of body language in the West ’s history.The second section describes the research ideas and research significance.Chapter Two is the outline of body language. This chapter is divided into three sections with the focus onbody language content on the theoretical and clears the object of study. The first section describes the meaningof body language.In second section, the classification of body language are discussed. In the last section, thebody language and cross-cultural communication communicative are explained.The third chapter analyzes the body language of English and Chinese cross-cultural communication. Thispart is the focus of this study, which includes five aspects of the different personalities of the English andChinese language and common comparative analysis from the posture, gestures, facial expressions, eyecontacts, and body contact behavior. This part of the contents is the foundation of the other four chapterscomparing the discovery and the five chapters discussing the principles.Chapter IV is about the findings of the contrast of English and Chinese body language. This section alsodiscusses the focus of this article.It consists of two sections: the first section describes the characteristics ofcross-cultural communication between English and Chinese body language, and the tradition combined with the times, universality and particularity coexist. In the second section, the cause of these differences andsimilarities of cultural factors are analyzed, mainly from the aspects of the religious culture and nationalculture.The fifth chapter is about the English and Chinese body language in intercultural communication. Thischapter describes the obstacles encountered in cross-cultural communication and the use of body languagecommunication principles that should be followed.The sixth chapter is the conclusion of this article. The basic situations of this research are brieflysummarized.
