Chinese new words are being created everyday, and more and more foreigners begin to learn Chinese.But we haven’t paid enough attention to the teaching of Chinese new words. In my view, we should pay more attention on the teaching of Chinese new words.In the introduction part of this paper, I summarize the studies of the Chinese new words, the teaching methods of the vocabularies of Chinese new words and the essays which combine the Chinese new words and the teaching methods of the Chinese words.In the first chapter of this paper, I investigate the identify situation of the Chinese new words of the students from overseas. I investigate the purpose, interest and the study material of the foreign students. I find that few foreign students can recognize the Chinese new words, but I also find that the majority of the students think that they are interested in the Chinese new words and learning Chinese new words will help them. Besides, I also investigate the Chinese new words which appear in the teaching materials published by Beijing language and culture university. I find there are few Chinese new words in the teaching materials. Besides. I investigate the popular Chinese magazines to find the useful Chinese new words.Since teaching Chinese new words can draw students’attention, strengthen the ability of communication as well as can make foreign students know more about current China, so I think it is necessary for foreign students to learn Chinese new words.In the second, firstly, I study which lesson I should choose to teach Chinese new words. Then I study eight methods of teaching Chinese new words according to the source of the new words, the coined words ways of the new words. The eight methods are in the old with the new law, traced back, analogy method, culture method, interpretation method, the translation method, context method and direct method. I hope that teachers will use the twelve methods according to certain situations.In the third chapter, since I have already known that there are just a few Chinese new words in the teaching materials through the investigations, I think we should revise the syllabus of vocabulary.We should add some new words to it at regular intervals, and we also should wipe off some useless old words. We should select the commonly used, popular, regular and stable Chinese new words. Finally, I think the teaching materials should adopt more Chinese new words. The reform of the teaching materials must be quicker. We teachers should compile some teaching materials and test papers for the foreign students. Only through this way, can we compile good teaching materials for the foreign students.Although teaching of Chinese new words is just a small part of the teaching Chinese as a foreign language, but it is irreplaceable. This paper introduces many methods of teaching Chinese new words and it gives some advice about the compile of the syllabus and the textbooks. I hope that this essay will be helpful for the compiling of the syllabus and textbooks.
