The directional complement is a kind of grammatical phenomena which is usedfrequently in our daily life. Meanwhile, it is also a difficulty that all foreign studentsmust overcome in their Chinese grammar learning. Sometimes the combined complexdirectional complements are antisense symmetrical on basic meaning. However, whenturn to extended meaning, their asymmetry will be presented, sometimes evendifferent complex directional complements can express the same meaning. The paperwill take “qi lai”、“shang qu”、“chu lai” as examples to study two key points: thefirst is studying their collocational competence with verbs, at the same time,inspecting their selectivity and absorption to verbs based on previous studies; thesecond is investigating their specialty when they express similar meaning.This article altogether is divided into six parts. The first chapter is mainlyliterature review, introduces the research background and research significance,including general domestic and foreign research review, finally put forward thesignificance of research and research methods.The second chapter is overview of directional complement. This chapter mainlyfocuses on the implication of directional complement, grammatical meaning and therelation between verbs and directional complement in verb-direction. Refering toformer researches, the author of the article probes into several issues and puts forwardsome suggestions.From third chapter to fifth chapter, according to statistic of verb-directioncollocation, the author discusses in detail about verb-direction collocation scenariosand verb-direction interactional law of “shang qu”、“chu lai”'“qi lai”.At last, in sixth chapter, aiming at foreign students’ weak points in Chineselearning, the author analyzes the extended meanings in detail from both syntax andsemantics.This article innovation in following aspects:1. Based on all the verbs in modern Chinese dictionary and corpus, get thestatistic of verb-direction collocation scenario for each verb. 2. After filtering the verbs which can be matched with these3directionalcomplements, summarize and analyze verb-direction interactional law betweenthem, inspecting directional complements’ selectivity and absorption to verbs3. Among the Chinese usage mistakes of foreign students, take“kan qi lai”、“kanshang qu”、“kan chu lai” as examples, investigate complex directional complements’difference when they have similar extended meanings.
