Yang Kuisheng (1781-1841) was a poet, who wrote many works such as Zhensong pavilion lyrics, GuoYunJingShe lyrics, FanTongShan pavilions poetry, XuCiPin, Gourd garden poetry and so on.In recent years, the academic study for Liangxi Ci poets in Qianjia period is burgeoning, for example, Yang Fangcan, Yang Kuisheng’s father, and Gu Han, Yang Kuisheng’s cousin have been researched by many scholars. However, the academic study for Yang Kuisheng has not yet launched.Based on the academic study of Zhensong pavilion lyrics (included in the Qing Dynasty Famous Lyrics, volume8,,267) and GuoYunJingShe lyrics (included in Garden Series,80), and related Yang Kuisheng’s real life and the poem background he was in, this thesis has made an in-depth study for his claims in lyrics、artworks’theme and artistic features.The introduction mainly introduces the research status、significance and methods for Yang Kuisheng’s poetry and poetry theories.In the first chapter, it mainly introduced Yang Kuisheng’s family and life, which is based on The chronicle of Mr. Yang Rongshang’s life, The county annals of Jinkui County, Jiangsu Province, The bibliography of writings in different dynasties of Xishan and combined the research results of Yang’s and Gu’s pedigrees and the historical data.In the second chapter, it made a discussion for Yang’s life with teachers and friends, which is based on the historical data of Yang’s family life and the poetry or lyrics of Yang’s friends such as Tao Liang、Guo Lin and Gu Han. This means it discussed his lyric source from his family biography and learning or teaching situation and it also discussed his traveling life from his families and friends.In the third chapter, it mainly investigated his Xucipin to discuss its origin relations with Shipin of Sikong Tu、Xushipin of Yuan Mu、Bushipin of Gu Han and Cipin of Guo Lin. And based on the analysis of the academic origins, it also simply revealed the innovation of Yang’s Ci theory.In the fourth chapter, it discusses the themes in Yang’s works, which is based on his Zhensong pavilion lyrics and GuoYunJingShe lyrics. He wrote many kinds of lyrics, such as beautiful landscape poems、natural rural poems、singular weird poems, which are very creative and colorful. This thesis also made a careful analysis on his works to reveal his mind and ideas.In the fifth chapter, it discusses the artistic features of his works from the style and allusions he used. This thesis makes an in-depth exploration into the elegance and magnificence in his beautiful landscape poems, into the indifference in his natural rural poems and into the monstrousness in his singular weird poems, so as to catch a glimpse of its style. Yang also are skilled on using the allusions to their points. In these allusions, he used both of ancient allusions and modern allusions very correctly.
