A strong whirlwind of television documentary has been prevailed in the Shaanxi film industry since2009. There have been more than10television documentaries of Shaanxi mainstream culture in just three or four years starting from2009when "Wang Changan" shown to May2012"Shaanxi Narrative: Dafeng Ge" played. These works are produced and invested by the main movie and TV organizations in Shannxi province, and even the top invited documentary team involved in the production of the most documentaries. They have far-reaching impact for they were played by the mainstream media platforms as well as the national media platforms.Considered these television documentaries on the Shaanxi mainstream culture as the research object, this thesis focused on classifying the documentaries and analyzing their aesthetic features, creative techniques and cultural characteristics by comprehensive methods from three dimensions, which are the type nature, aesthetic and culture features. Meanwhile, the analysis of the existed imperfection and exposed problems in the works would be made in the paper. Firstly, the paper theoretically defined the concept of mainstream television documentary and elaborated the development history of television documentaries on Chinese and Shaanxi mainstream culture. Secondly, the research objects would be analyzed according to their aesthetic features and cultural identity. Finally, the appropriate solutions were put forth to deal with the imperfection and problems appeared in the works and the future prospects of television documentary on Shaanxi mainstream culture were outlined. We hope this study can provide a certain degree of theoretical support for the future development based on the creation of the Shaanxi television documentary.
