Abstract/Summary:
This master’s dissertation proposed a distinguish perspective based on further study on Rinchindorj’s Law of Development and Evolution of Mongolian Epic, By analysis of Barag Epic Manggas’s matrix, the description of Manggas character, Manggas in the Mongolian literatures and the relationship with that in the Mongolian Epic, the possibility on whether the figure of Manggas in Barag Epic is more realistic as a early representation was discussed. In addition, questions were raised about whether fewer variation during the heritage of Barag Epic makes it more close to the real Mongolian Epic of the early stage. The valuable views of this study presented on how to reschedule the old scheme on Mongolian Epic based on region-specific heritage could help us in understanding such issues throughly. This dissertation is composed of preface, subject, conclusion and reference. The cause and object of the selected topic, overview of the topic, research methods, research meaning, epic material and terminology were introduced in the preface. In the first chapter, the quantity of Manggas’s matrix, the common and region-specific Manggas’s motif in Barag, Oirad, khorchin which represent the different stages of Mongolian epic were compared. By deep analysis of the percentage of the Manggas matrix in these three regions, possibility of whether the argument of Barag Epic represents the real Mongolian Epic of early stage agrees with what the Manggas matrix in Barag Epic was proposed, with discussion about the necessity to further test the statement in Law of development of Mongolian Epic. The abstract and concrete figures of Manggas in different regions were described in chapter2, where the similarities were less than specialties. The figures of Manggas in Barag, khorchin have more similarities than the specialties of that in Oirad, which demonstrated variations in the heritage of Barag epic. Unfortunately, we cannot conclude precisely because of the limitation of live form epic we used.In chapter3, by comparison of the evil characters in these three epics, diversification of types of1evil characters in Barag epic were discussed. The mythologization and actualization of the evil characters roots in the culture specialty of the specific region. Evolution was undergone by carving and polishing by their own culture and custom. This makes it less representative of the early stage of Mongolian epic.In chapter4, after comparing the figures of Manggas in Mongolian literatures and with these3epics, the author observed that the figure of Manggas in Barag epic was more close to that in the historical document. Thus, the figure of Manggas in Barag epic had gone through changes during its heritage, and conclusion cannot made that the Barag epic reserved the early stage of Mongolian epicIn conclusion, based on the argument proposed by Rinchindorj in With less variation, Barag epic is more close to the real Mongolian Epic of the early stage, the author proposed the necessity of further study to testify the scientificity of the scheme based on region-specific method.
