As globalization develops, the exchanges among different countries becomeincreasingly frequent and close. During this process, interpreting plays a more importantrole than ever before. Therefore, interpreting has attracted more and more attention. Alongwith that, the public hold higher expectations for interpreting.This paper takes up the2012US presidential debate as a case of consecutiveinterpreting. Due to the huge influence of the US, all the US presidential debates haveattracted the attention of the whole world, because they focus on various kinds of hotissues of the US and the world. Therefore, it is of practical significance to study this case.As a comprehensive theory, adaptation theory covers all aspects of language use,providing guidance for interpreting. This paper explores interpretation strategies from theperspective of adaptation theory in the case of2012US presidential debate. This paper hasfour areas of concern, including contextual correlates of adaptability, structural objects ofadaptability, dynamics of adaptability and salience of adaptability. It is aimed to contributeto the improvement of the adaptation ability of interpreters as well as the quality ofinterpretation.
