On Interpreting Strategies In TV Simultaneous Interpretation From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

According to the Adaptation Theory,"Using language must consist of the continuous making of linguistic choices,consciously or unconsciously for language-internal and/or language external reasons." With the development of the 21st century global economic integration process,more and more TV stations have adopted simultaneous interpretation in foreign news of live telecast.However,the studies focusing on analyzing the strategies applied in TV SI under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory are rare.The contents of American presidential debate cover the hot topics such as the United States and the world's politics,diplomatic,economy and trade,culture and education,social security,medical insurance,science and technology,energy,marriage and so on.Therefore,this debate has always received world-wide attention.This thesis has chosen the third presidential debate of the US in 2016 as studying material,which was selected from the TV simultaneous interpretation produced by Tencent News,analyzing the interpreting strategies and errors in the process of the TV SI under the framework of the Adaptation Theory.The author finds that the interpreters of TV SI have followed the principles of the Adaptation Theory intentionally or unintentionally in the process of interpretation.For example,in order to make contextual correlates of adaptability,the interpreters adopted the strategy of omission and inference.The strategies of repetition,reformulation and information equivalence have been applied so as to make structural objects of adaptability.The dynamics of adaptability has been achieved through adopting the strategies of syntactic linearity,adjusting and simplification.Generally,the author insists that the Adaptation Theory can be applied to choose the interpreting strategies in TV simultaneous interpretation.It is also hoped that these findings will offer some help to the training and practice of TV SI in the future.
