"The dumb festival" is spread in the Yi village of Gaiwasa of Xinhe villagers committee of Gonlang town of Nanjian county of Dali state of Yunnan Province, it is called "Er yue ba" in folk."Dumb God’s Dance" is the main ceremony of festival, by the nine men secretly dressed as "dumb", dancing and entertainment in the square and flooding of god in farmer home."Dumb God’s Dance" is a ritual dance to flood of god and drive out epidemic disease, to pray disaster be averted, it belongs to the category of Nuo dance, a component part of Nuo culture of Chinese. In recent years, the ceremony of "Dumb God’s Dance" gradually from amusing god to amusing human, performers wearing masks, bizarre dress, simple and bold action, which attracting outsiders have come to visit. In the process of the exchange and fusion of external culture and native culture, the festival name, ritual function are gradually changed, even extend "’new tradition". Discussion on how to inherit and protect the folk "the dumb festival", gradually become the focus of attention of the current.The author amply recorded the ritual process of festive, interviewed a number of local political elite, culture elite, the organizer of festive,"’Dumb" actor, ordinary villagers, media and other groups.This paper consist of eight parts. The first part is the introduction, it mainly introduced the current research situation of this topic. The second part introduced the basic situation of generating environment of the Gaiwasa of "the dumb festival". The third part recorded the complete ritual process. The fourth part analyzed the cultural connotation of "the dumb festival", including the belief system of festival, the ritual art, the symbolic meanings of ritual. The fifth part analysed the cultural function of "the dumb festival" from internal and external. The sixth part summarized the contemporary transition of "the dumb festival" from history to modern. The seventh part discussed the inheritance and protection of "the dumb festival". The eighth part is the conclusion, understanding and thinking of some of the inheritance and protection of the traditional festival of minority nationality It is based on the comprehensive analysis, attempt to discuss the festival property of "the dumb festival" from the folk religious belief, ritual structure and ritual function, to explore the theory of the inheritance and protection of this festival, in order to make the theoretical discussion about the inheritance and protection of "the dumb festival".
