As we know, Karl Marx’s thoughts used to be explained in the tradition ofscientism and positivism and traced back to the German classical philosophy, theBritish classical political economics and the French utopian socialism. However, theinner relationship between Marx’s thoughts and German romanticism which is oneof the important thought resources during the development of German thoughts wasignored in this kind of explanation. In addition, the passive influence of theignorance mentioned above has become more and more obvious with the promotionof our study on Marx and the history of German thoughts. Therefore, it ismeaningful to tap the covered part of Marx’s thoughts from the perspective of theideas of German romanticism theoretically and practically for us to understand Marxfurther. In this article we’ll concentrate on the irony implications in Marx’s views ofreligion, state and labor from the corresponding irony of German romanticism. Andwe claim that the German romanticists have used the irony to analyze the existenceconditions and life experience of human being internally because the external worldwas caught in crisis, which lacked an exploration on practice. By contrast, Marx hasput the irony into practice from his historical materialism. So Marx’s irony has beenused to reflect the approaches of human beings’ existence and development andreveal the paradoxical existence condition of human being, which has become thecomplete critique to the real world with Marx’s dialectic.
