National identity is an important spiritual force,which can integrate social resources, promote social cohesion, maintain social stability and promote the stability of the state. With the expansion of globalization, the decline of the nation-state, the impact of pluralistic values, and the emergence of supranational community, The problem of public’s self-definition of identity and belonging is increasingly prominent, Therefore, the study of national identity has both theoretical and practical significance. From the perspective of cross-country comparisons, the study use Asian Barometer Survey of2008to explore the differences of National Identity in China, Japan and South Korea, in order to find the commons and differences of national identity in these three countries.Through the comparative analysis of empirical data, the public’s national identity in China, Japan and South Korea has both common and personality. Firstly, on the overall level of national identity, China, Japan and South Korea are in the middle level of national identity and there is no positive correlation between the identity level and the degree of modernization; Secondly, the effect of age on national identity is widespread, and the elder has higher degree of national identity than the younger; Thirdly, with the development of one country’s modernization, the impact of economic welfare on the public’s national identity is gradually declined; Fourthly, In the stage of modernization, the primary factor that affecting national identity is political performance; Fifthly, the extent of corruption in China, Japan and South Korea has significant impact on public’s national identity; Sixthly, the influence of traditional culture on national identity to the public is gradually declined with the development of one country’s modernization level; Seventhly, globalization is an important factor that restricting public’s national identity, and the higher the level of national modernization, the more negative impact of globalization on public’s national identity, but on the whole, the globalization has limited influence on it.
